On January 21, 2021, President Joseph Biden issued the Executive Order on Promoting COVID-19 Safety in Domestic and International Travel, which directed federal leaders to take immediate action requiring face masks in airports and on commercial aircraft. On January 29, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) issued an Order mandating masks. On January 31, the Transportation Security Administration (TSA) issued a Security Directive outlining requirements for airport operators and how the president’s Executive Order and the CDC Order will be enforced.
